50th Anniversary...

Today, marks the 50th annivesary of the day a four-seat airplane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) crashed into a cornfield eight miles north of Clear Lake, Iowa, enroute to Moorhead, Minnesota. All on board were killed instantly.

Years ago, I babysat for a lady who was at the dance where they all performed the evening before in Clear Lake, Iowa. She was crying as she told me the story. Her high school (located in Spirit Lake, Iowa) along with a couple of neighboring She told me it was surreal to wake up the next morning and find out the trio never made it to Moorhead.

My favorite Buddy Holly tune is, True Love Ways. Here are the lyrics.
True Love Ways
(Buddy Holly)

Yes you know why
Why you and I
Will by and by
Know true love ways.

Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
Know true love ways.

Throughout the days
Our true love ways
Will bring us joy to share
With those who really care.

Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
Know true love ways.

Throughout the days
Our true love ways
Will bring us joy to share
With those who really care.

Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
Know true love ways.

My favorite slow song EVER! love this one. My son Joel, surprised me one time at karaoke and sang it for me. I DID cry. It was soooo sweet. By the way, he talked to me on the phone for 45 minutes about all the details of this event. He LOVES anything to do with Buddy Holly, the Crickets and the Surf ballroom! Good to know he is still into him and the heavy metal music is no longer being played! What a relief! Good memeories and sad ones too.
Thanks for sharing Marie!
