My Dad's 100th Birthday, Today {had he lived}

Family photo-1957{which is how I always remember him looking...}
Here he is playing Santa Claus:
My brother, Ed recently sent this story about Dad:
"A few months ago a friend of mine asked me if I would serve on the board of directors for her new restaurant. I agreed that I would and asked her who else was going to serve on the board. She gave me a guy’s name. I didn’t know him but she seemed to think he knew me. Anyway, at the board meeting, I met this man and he did seem to remember me. As we got to talking, he told me that he once owned the grocery store in my hometown and that Dad worked for him, bagging groceries {though he was officially retired, he was not the type to just sit around; and besides, it brought in some extra income}. He had such vivid memories of Dad. One was that he was so nice to everyone and how quiet he was, the other was how his shirts were always so white. (Must have been that homemade soap Mom made). Ha! Then he gave me this picture that was taken by the town’s newspaper showing Dad bagging groceries. It is not a real good picture as it was copied from the paper but It did bring back a lot of memories."
I found this poem {Author Unknown} and felt it fit for this occassion:

How Lucky
H - how lucky to have had so good a father!
O - on us his warm, unstinting sun long shone.
W - we were, of his hardworking life, the center,
L - loved for the pure joy of love alone.
U - uncanny are the requisites of pleasure,
C - coming as they do within the will.
K - knowing well where lay his greatest treasure,
Y - years on years of love he labored still.

I love and miss you, Daddy...

Hey Sis ~ went to Mass today and prayed in thanksgiving for the greatest Dad in the world on his 100th birthday. Yes, we were so extremely blessed to have the "Rock of Gibralter" (sp) for our Dad. We knew him in different stages of his life, as being one of the oldest, I knew him in his young married years and you knew him when he was saged & filled with life's wisdom. All those stages of his life, including Connie and Paul knowing him in his retirement years, how ever comfortable he was in his own skin because he knew his Lord and modeled his life after the one who made him and gave him his wisdom and knowledge. He taught with example, words and prayer life. We are all better because he was our Dad. Love, Sis
