I often think that if adults put their whole hearts and souls into their prayers, and pray with more 'child-like faith', we would see more answers; which was one of the reasons Jesus told us to have the faith of a little child, and that we would have expectation and trust in Him...that He does, indeed, hear us and is not only able to but also willing to answer our prayers.
Remember that our prayers are just conversations with God and putting Him first place in our lives; trusting Him to do the things that we have asked of Him. The following excerpt is taken from page 36 of The New York City Noon Prayer Meeting by Talbot W Chambers:
How to Pray Aright
I often say my prayers - But do I ever pray? Or do the wishes of my heart suggest the words I say?
'Tis useless to implore, unless I feel my need. Unless 'tis from a sense of want, that all my prayers proceed.
I may as well kneel down and worship gods of stone, as offer to the living God a prayer of words alone.
For words without the heart the Lord will never hear; nor will be ever those regard whose prayers are insincere.
Lord teach me what I want and teach me how to pray; nor let me e'er implore Thy grace, not feeling what I say.
